Last year, the Dow hit a high water mark of 14,093 on October 12, 2007. Nearly a year later, on September 30, 2008, the Dow closed at 10,850, which is about the same level it was running at when Dubya got sworn in in 2000.

Today, the Dow closed at 8579, making today’s close a one year drop of 39%, and a one week drop of 21%.
