UMass Medical a possible budget cut target?

Don’t be surprised if Governor Deval Patrick’s announcement of serious statewide budget cuts tomorrow has serious effects for planned bioscience expansion at UMass Medical.
Governor Deval Patrick did not comment today on higher education cuts, but the Boston Globe reported last week that officials were anticipating an over 5% reduction in hugher ed budgets.
And in other (related/unrelated) news, a Massachusetts Life Sciences Center meeting was cancelled at the last minute this morning. The quasi-public group is responsible for distributing $1 billion in life sciences investments; so far, a significant portion has gone to UMass connected projects such as the planned stem-cell center.
