Q Cafe gets entertainment permission, kind of

It hasn’t been an easy road for The Q Cafe on Chandler Street. Earlier this year, the cafe was reprimanded by the License Commission for hosting entertainment without a proper license after several noise and public disturbance complaints from neighbors.
This morning, the commission approved an entertainment license for Q Café despite the numerous noise complaints from neighbors. But there’s a catch. The license limits the underground-hipster spot to poetry readings and soft acoustic music. Further, no more than two musicians can perform at one time.
”We don’t want to put [the café] out of business, but we have to consider the neighborhood,” Commissioner Kevin OSullivan says, referring to the fact that the café’s Chandler Street location is heavily residential.
In the same spirit of looking out for the ear drums of neighbors, the commission added another stipulation to the cafés license: Entertainment must end at 10 p.m. The move might appease some neighbors who have complained about patrons hanging outside the coffee shop all day and night, but certainly restricts the options for the cafe.
