Telegram Comments

About two months ago, I started get some comments that were not “constructive”, even offensive. For a couple of days, I set up comment moderation and the person, who was putting up these comments disappeared. As a result I removed comment moderation, but if it happens again I will set up comment moderation again. FYI, comment moderation requires me to read every comment, before it gets posted. I hated doing it, but it had to be done to get rid of one anonymous loser.
That being said, it hit me today when I read comments on the Telegram on-line version, then I read about Harry’s letter to the editor. Why does Harry Tembenis need to personally sign off for his letter, but the Telegram allows people to post viscous comments about people on their on-line version anonymously? In the very least they should 1) install “comment moderation” versus “report abuse” or 2) require people that post comments ,verify who they are and attach their actual name and address.
Keeping in mind this is the same newspaper, who allows a sitting airport commissioner write stories about the airport while not acknowledging a potential conflict, realize the potential abuse of the on-line comments and the lack or professionality that their print version tries to maintain.
