by - December 29, 2009 2:00am

Higgins Armory Museum, 100 Barber Avenue, Worcester, MA

Explore the world of knights in shining armor, of princesses trapped in a castle, and of fire breathing dragons. Fun and excitement at the Higgins Armory Museum during school vacation week. Live demonstrations daily and art workshops. (Museum Open: Monday December 28, 2009, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.)

Live Arms and Armor Show – 11:30 am, 1:30 pm, & 2:30 pm (Sunday 12:30 pm & 2:30 pm) – Free with Museum Admission
Why armor? Who wore it, who made it, and why are there so many different types? In this interactive program, discover the history of armor; from its evolution from mail to plate armor to its disappearance (and modern reappearance on the battlefield). Volunteers from the audience will have opportunities to help with the demonstration.

Make-Your-Own Shield Workshop – All Day – $5 per shield
Discover the history of heraldry and then create your very own unique heraldic shield. Learn what the different “charges” or symbols that decorate the shields stand for and what colors represent courage, generosity, loyalty, or hope. Can you create a shield that tells everyone about who you are?
Cost: All presenations are free with museum admission (workshops extra).

Through Thursday, Dec 31.

But what do you think?
