In an op-ed in yesterday’s Telegram & Gazette, Sheila Burgess, Massachusetts highway safety director, noted that driving under the influence of alcohol in Massachusetts is punishable “with a fine of up to $5,000, a jail sentence of up to two and a half years, and a license suspension – for a first offense.”
